Conference Program

Day One

7:30 a.m. - 4:40 p.m.

Group Lectures and Hands-On Workshops

Consumer Uses of Minerals
Minerals are found everywhere in our daily life. Are you aware of what and where they are? Do you know how much each of us uses each day? You will be very surprised by the answers to these questions and by how easily this information can be taught in the classroom.

How and Where Minerals are Formed
Where are California’s minerals found? How are mineral deposits related to the rock cycle and plate tectonic processes? What concentration makes recovery economically possible? This portion of the program is designed to cover information for the novice and also for the more experienced in the topic.

Conversation with Industry
This conference segment offers a unique opportunity to meet and converse with mineral industry experts who will share their first-hand knowledge of California’s diverse mineral richness, how it is being processed and used, and information on environmental protections that are in place to protect us all.

Minerals and the Environment
Minerals are essential and must be extracted where they are found. Are they being mined in an environmentally responsible manner? What about re-cycling? Is California using its resources wisely? These and other issues will be addressed.
