California Mineral Education Foundation

2003 TEACHER CONFERENCE

General Information

Each year, the California Mineral Education Foundations organizes two conferences that offer information about California’s rocks and minerals in a concentrated format that is usually not available.  These conferences are designed to provide lesson plans, hands-on workshops, classroom materials, and tours for K-12 teachers.  Workshops are divided into: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 levels.

Who Should Attend:

All K-12 teachers who need help meeting the State Standards in Earth Science.  Subject matter is applicable and informative for all levels, from the novice to the science “expert.”  All classroom activities, lesson plans, classroom materials, videos and mine tour experiences have been geared for specific Standards.

Continuing Education Credit:

A letter certifying up to 16 hours of continuing education will be available upon request.  Check with your district office to be sure this meets your local requirements.

Purpose:

To provide California teachers with information and practical applications that will be of assistance in the teaching of earth science, and in particular, the important role minerals play in our daily lives.

University Credit:

One unit of credit is available through California State University, Sacramento.  Contact the Foundation office for further information about cost and procedure for applying for credit.

Instructors and Lecturers:

University professors, accredited California Earth Science teachers, state geologists from the Department of Conservation, California Geologic Survey Division, the US Geologic Survey and mineral industry representatives.

Cost:

Since many components of the Conference are donated, your total cost is very affordable.  Don’t miss the FUN optional dinner on Thursday evening. This dinner includes a “free” raffle and the opportunity to meet your fellow attendees in a relaxed social atmosphere.  Dinner will be held at the hotel.
